Audio notes and iSight microphone: no recording!

With an Intel Mac Mini and an iSight camera w/built-in mike am unable to record audio notes in Word 2008. Have turned on iSight via iChat and verified that sound is being registered. Do not see option in Word or System Preferences to set default mike. Perplexing....

Hmmm... It works OK here.

I assume that you quit iChat after carrying out your test?

There's no "selection" of the mic, Word is not actually recording the "mic",
it is reporting the output of your sound-card, whatever sound is running
through it. So it will record whatever mic you have plugged in.

What other applications that take sound input do you have running?

Try a re-boot?

Thanks John. Yes, I quit iChat after test. Turned off iTunes and Audio Hijack Pro (which may or may not have been interfering), rebooted and still no recording. Still perplexed.

I am to successfully record audio notes with Mac Word 2008. I have verified
this on a MacBook Pro running both 10.4.11 and 10.5.2. I¹ve also verified
with a G5 running 10.4.11. I did have to set the Input for the Sound System
Preference to the iSight. A couple of things I can suggest for you to check
are:
* Input on the Sound Pref is set to iSight
* The input level is set high enough. I had to set the level almost to the
max to get a loud enough recording
