anybody know a slick way to maintain an audit log?
keep track of who changed what?

Depends of your definition of "slick!" If you mean "easy" there's no such
critter. If you mean a hack that works as effectively as possible, then
Cheese_whiz's suggestion is about as "slick" as it's going to get. This type
of thing is NEVER going to be simple.
