Auto add recipient to address book

M

Matthew Yohe

Hello,

I am curious if there is a way to automatically add a recipient to my
address book when I am sending a message.

The problem is that the "Recent contacts" are not actual address book
contacts, so they are local to each separate Entourage install.

I tried creating an outgoing rule, but after selecting: "Any To recipient"
and "is not in address book", there is no "Add to address book" action that
I can perform.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Since this gets spam, you might be able to add an action "is not junk
email".

Otherwise, control click on address in the "to" line and select "add to
Address Book". This way you can assign a category to the contact. If you
don't use categories you are missing out on one of Entourage's biggest
features.

Thanks for the reply, but this solution only adds recipients from incoming
mail to the address book. And you cannot apply it to your "Sent" folder
because now "Add sender" translates to "Add me" to the address book.

I will control click on the "to" line until I can find another solution, but
this seems odd that I cannot automatically add recipients to my address book
when I send to them.

Generally, you receive a message from the person THEN add them to Address
Book. Where are you getting their email addresses?

If I type a new email address into entourage, and initiate our first
correspondence.

This adds them to the autocomplete, but obviously not to my address book.

Drag from the to line into the body. Select the email, and choose add to
Address Book. Delete from message.

I still don't understand where you are getting the address that's not
allowing you to select to add it to Address Book.

Since my goal was to simply add an email address every time I send out a new
email, I figured I could do it with an outgoing rule.

Hopefully this picture will help:

I can select the correct ³If² statement. Being, ŒAny recipient that is not
in address book Contacts (Exchange)¹

But the Then action is not appropriate for doing what I want. I need a ³Add
recipient to address book² which doesn¹t exist.

Hi Matt,

Jolly Roger has pointed out that you can do this with AppleScript. As you
can see, you can instruct Entourage to run an AppleScript as part of an
outgoing rule. The problem is writing the actual script; I don't know much
about scripting, so I can't really help you. Maybe someone more
AppleScript-savvy will be able to help you out.
