Auto-capitalization after number&period

D

Debbie

I am using Word 2003 and, though I have checked every
control I can find in the autocorrect options, I can not
get Word to automatically capitalize the first letter of a
sentence when it follows a sentence ending with a number
then period. (i.e., I get "His total cholesterol level
was 220. his lipid-lowering med will be increased.")
There are no numbers listed in the "exceptions" area to
prevent the capitalization. Any help would be greatly
appreciated! Thank you!!! (From a die-hard WordPerfect
user)

Automatic capitalisation is an aid, not a crutch. Unfortunately it doesn't
work after a number in any Word version.

Debbie,

I concur with Graham. However, if you are looking for a proofing tool to
find and correct instances where you missed a capitalization, then you can
use the following find and replace operation.

Find>Replace
Click More, Use wildcards
Type ([0-9]{1,}.)( {1,})([a-z]) in the find what field
Put your cursor in the Replace with field, click Format>font>All cap and
type the following in the field
\1\2\3

Replace all.

Actually, it worked fine in Word for Windows 95; it became "broken" in Word
97 (probably in response to user demand, but that's another story).
