This is a strange error that I have not been able to solve, nor has anyone
been able to help me figure it out. One of my employee's uses Excel 2003
daily, but he has gotten so annoyed with Excel that he threatens to beat the
computer into tiny pieces.
Here is his problem: When he opens Excel, either creates a new workbook OR
opens an existing file, and he types in the number 40 into a cell, Excel
automatically changes the 40 into a 35. Weird, right? We have found a
temporary solution to the problem. For now, he types in the 40, Excel changes
it to 35, and then he is running the Replace function and replacing all the
35's with 40's. We have not completely tested this theory, in that we have
not tried saving, closing, and re-opening the file to make sure the 40's
don't revert to 35's, but it seems like it will probably work.
I have over 50 computers in my hands, with all of them running Windows XP
and Microsoft Office. Most of them are on 2002 or 2003, with the exception of
myself who runs 2007. It seems very odd that his unit is the only one that is
having this error. We have even gone so far as to completely wipe his HDD
clean and re-install the programs, to no avail.
Please, can anyone help us out? I really would hate for him to blow up his
computer. He is our Maintenance Director and does have access to all kinds of
tools and chemicals he could use to demolish his unit.
