auto check function??

Hi all;
Is there a way to set up some kind of auto check function
on the data when the particular file is lunched by using
access 2002? actually I had question about setting up
message box about the expiration date week ago. it worked
fine but what i really need to do is have the access run
check on the expiration dates and pop up some kind of
message box saying that they are about to expire. does
filter function come in handy at situations like this, if
yes how do i go ahead and set it up? any kind of help is
appreciated. thanks in advance...
