Auto conversion of the letter "i"

When I type the letter "i" into a cell, it is automatically converted to I. No other character appears to have this problem. I have set the cell format to TEXT, and turned off auto formatting, but it is still happening. Anyone have any ideas or had this too?

The correction is made by a feature called AutoCorrect because the English
language has no such word or usage of a stand-alone "i" character. You can
remove the item by going to Tools> AutoCorrect & deleting it from the
"Replace text as you type" list but AutoCorrect is shared by all programs in
the Suite, so if you remove the item it will no longer correct i-I in Word
or PPt or Entourage.

Here are some alternatives:

1- In Tools> AutoCorrect remove the check for the item mentioned above which
disables it in Excel but not the other programs.
2- Type an apostrophe before typing the i - the apostrophe doesn't display
or print but simply identifies the cell's content as text,
3- Put a period or some other mark before or after the i,
4- Type the i followed by a space then key Command+Z to Undo the switch to
uppercase action [then delete the space if you wish] before pressing return.
