Auto correct going crazy!

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

Has anyone else had the experience of auto correct going crazy, adding a whole string of letters, sometimes not even Roman alphabet? I'm not sure what is triggering it, but it's happened enough times to be annoying. This never happened in Word 2004. I've turned off Auto-Correct, but that doesn't seem to stop it.

I need a better description of the problem. If you have turned off
Autocorrect, then it's not Autocorrect.

There's not enough detail in your description for me to guess what it might
be.

It might turn out to be a "font" issue.
