auto-correct in word 2000

Auto-correct keeps popping words into the docuemt where they don't belong,
e.g., I type U.S.A. several times in a report and when I print the page it
might say CPA or XXX-XX or something else from auto-correct wherever U.S.A.
is supposed to be. This has happened on my old computer and now on my new
one, too. I was using Windows 98 on the old one, Windows XP Professional on
the new one, but they're both doing the same odd thing in Word documents.
Any ideas? Thanks

The operating system has nothing to do with it. Check your autocorrect
entries in Word and delete the one relating to U.S.A. which is causing the
problem.

There are no entries in auto-correct relating to U.S.A. That was just one instance. It occasionally pops a date such as June 1, 1989 or some other date in wherever a proper name is placed, or sometimes will put some other auto-corrrect entry in where it doesn't belong and where I have not used an auto-correct entry.
