Auto Correct Initial Capitals

Z

ZTamsen

I like to sign off emails created in MS Outlook with my initials in all lower
case. Whenever I do so and hit RETURN, it automatically capitalizes my first
initial. I have added my initials to the autocorrect exception list, but it
continues to autocorrect. Any suggestions to permanently fix would be
greatly appreciated. I know it can be done because my old computer did it
fine, but I just started a new job this week and I can't find the setting.

thanks,
zwt
(note, all lower case)

My guess is that the "Capitalize first letter of sentences" setting is
what's making your zwt into Zwt.

Herb,

Thanks for the info. That does appear to be the issue. How can I fix that
for this specific usage. I would still like to capitalize first words in
sentences, but not in this case. Is there a way to set that up?

thanks,
zwt

Just a thought, set Zwt -> zwt?

where do I do that setting? In the "control autocorrect settings" box, under
exceptions, in the "other corrections" tab, I added a "do not correct"
setting to "zwt", but it continues to change it.

Thanks for all of the help.

Bob -

Thanks for all of the help/input. However, when I do as you suggested,
apparently the Cap first letter of a sentence overrides the "Replace With"
option and my initials still end up capitalized. Any more ideas?

thanks so much,
zwt

When it happens, you can press Ctrl+Z to undo that "correction." That might
be about the best you can do, assuming you want to preserve sentence
capitalization. Or, you could turn off all capitalization and pretend you're
e e cummings. ;-)

Oddly enough, in Office 2007, Word and Outlook handle this differently. I
don't know about earlier versions... but, when I include Hlt/hlt as a
replace/with combo in AutoCorrect in Word, it overrides sentence
capitalization, and I get the behavior you want. In Outlook, however,
sentence capitalization wins the battle. Very odd. I would have expected
both to behave the same way.

Are you allowing word wrap to work or are you using a hard return at the end of a line?

Use "signatures" instead of typing it?
