Auto Correct Run-Time Error

H

HW

When trying to back up my a/c entries through the macros9.dot, it stops at
1516 of 4555 entries and I receive an error message: Run-time error 5852;
requested object is not available. Debugging does nothing except opens up a
screen no normal human being could understand and help gives me a blank
screen. Please advise

Did you try Charles Kenyon's suggestion from the last time you
posted this same question?

Ah, well, I couldn't tell from your lack of a reply. When you
tried Charles' suggestion, did the runtime error still occur at
entry number 1516?

That's because I was offended by your question. I've had this problem for so
long and it is apparent MS is unable or incapable of assisting me.

You didn't reply to Charles a month ago because you were offended
by my question today? What is apparent is that you are beyond
help. Good luck with your problem.

You are rude and should not be in pr of any kind. It's no wonder you work
with computers tho

Just so you know, MVPs are not Microsoft employees. No one is getting
paid to answer questions in the newsgroups. We're just folks like you
who voluntarily spend our own time trying to help others in the
newsgroups.

It could be your AutoCorrect entries contain paragraph marks or
tables. The macro found in Macros<ver>.dot does not provide for this
possibility and you will encounter an error. Here's a link to an
article that contains a download to an updated utility:

Please post all follow-up questions to the newsgroup. Requests for
assistance by email can not be acknowledged.

All of the people who provide answers here are volunteers. They don't work
for Microsoft but are your fellow computer users, some with decades of
experience. It would be helpful, if you want help, to answer my suggestions
and questions. Let us know what happened when you tried them.

I had suggested that you download the utility from the MVP site rather than
using the macro9.dot procedure. It has been thoroughly tested on multiple
versions of Word in multiple configurations.
Did you do that and it didn't work either?

Then I suggested:
If you downloaded the utility from the MVP site, and came up with this
problem, you may have corruption somewhere. First try renaming normal.dot
with Word closed, reopening, and trying the utility. If that doesn't crash,
the problem is in one of the entries in your normal.dot. If it does, it is
in the .acl file. If the acl file is the problem, first close Word again and
rename normal.dot back. If the problem is in the normal.dot file, then
rename your acl file and reopen Word.

Make a copy of your acl files in a separate folder.

Open Word and delete the last half of your AC entries. Close and reopen
Word.
Try to run the utility. If it crashes, close Word and try moving your
shortened acl file to another file and copy your backup copy of the original
back. Open Word and delete the first half of your AC entries. Close and
reopen Word.
Try to run the utility.

Deleting that many AC entries may call for a macro. Again, make sure of your
backups.

One final suggestion is to start Word in Safe Mode and try to run the macro.
Good luck.

In the future, it is helpful if you keep your postings on the same topic in
the same thread. That way people can see what suggestions have already been
made and what you've tried. Take a look at the FAQ posting, it has a link to
posting suggestions.
