Auto Date Insertion

In the Word Letter Template, the today's date is
automatically inserted in your letter. Is there a way,
when opening saved letters to have the letter the date
was created displayed. I now realize there is an option
to uncheck when the letter is created, but what about my
old letters - can I open them and have the original date
displayed?

You need to use the CreateDate field (Insert/Field) instead of the
Date field which automatically updates to the current date.

For your old letters the best course of action is to replace the Date
field with the CreateDate field.

Either:

- Press Alt + F9 to toggle the field codes
- Add "Create" in front of Date (CreateDate)
- Press Alt+F9 to toggle the field codes off
- Right-click the field and select "Update Field"

Or you can use an AutoText entry for this:

- Insert the CreateDate field into a document
- Select just the field (do not include the paragraph mark)
- Press Alt + F3 to open the Create AutoText dialog box
- Provide a name for the entry such as CreateDate
- Select OK
- To use the entry start typing CreateDate in your document and press
Enter when the AutoComplete tip appears.
