Auto Expand in Combo Box Won' Work

I have a combo box that is fed by a query that has 30 files in it. I would
like to be able to put in the first few characters and have the combo box
fill in the first matching record. I have the auto expand set to Yes but the
field does not fill in. Can anybody tell me why the auto expand won't work.
