Auto Fill in a Table

I would like to have Word complete numbering a column for me. e.g.
1,2,3,4......continue with numbering. Is there a way to do this? I have
searched everywhere in "Help".

Thanks,

|| Thanks,

Select the column and assign to it a style that includes numbering. (Create
a style from Format > Styles and Formatting, then from the Style editing
dialog, go to the Bullet and Numbering dialog and select a numbering scheme,
then close the Style dialog and apply that style to the column.) The nice
thing with this is that if you go to the end of the table and place the
cursor just outside the last cell, to the right, and hit Enter, a new row
with the next number will be added, or, if you delete rows, the numbers will
readjust automatically. Sometimes, depending on the context, I use a very
narrow column, just narrow enough for the numbers, I remove the border to
the right of the number and use the Normal style in the cell next to the
numbers. It is sometimes easier to manage this way. (E.g., it is easy to
manipulate the number formatting by itself, without affecting the text next
to it.)

Or you could create the table in Excel where this sort of thing is much
easier to do and link the table into Word.

Thanks for the suggestions. I set it up in Excel which I knew I could do but
I wanted to figure it out in Word. I tried the numbering but I had to
customize it so that periods did not come after the number. In addition, I
wanted to have four columns; two numbered and two with names. When I used
#'ing it put 1 in the first row, first column and 2 in the first row, third
column. I wanted #'ing from say 1-25 in the first column and 26-50 in the
third column. It was easier to do it in Excel.

For this to work in Word, you need tow separate styles (both with numbering
set up properly). You could have Col1_Number and Col3_Number styles.
Or, Autotext containing SEQ fields, again, two SEQ fields lists are
required.

SEQ fields are probably more stable in such a case...

It is not that hard once you get the hang of it...
