auto generate a number in word 2003

Hi there,
is there a way to create a field in word 2003 to make a unique number. i
want to use word document to create a certificate that has a unique
certificate number. Everytime the doc is opened, a new unique number is
created. perhaps creating a formula that takes the system date and time as a
numberical value and multiple it by a value. If this was possible, then
evertime the doc was opened, the certifacte number would be a unique value.
is there a predefined formula that is already out there that could be used
for this?
