Auto Name Cache Showing Extra numbers

R

rwt_ray

On our network we have one user(e.g. Bob Stevens) who's email address and
name show up correctly in outlook 2003 address book.

But when anyone goes to use "Auto Name Complete" to send a mail to Bob
Stevens, the cached email address will show up cached, but it also has some
weird numbers attached to the cached name.

For example, the email address is (e-mail address removed). When you start
typing out the email address, an auto name complete will show "bob stevens
<bstevens 16813114445>".

The correct name cache should only read "bob stevens <bstevens>". This shows
up on everyones computer and we only have this problem with this one person.

Anyone suggestions how to remove those numbers?

What makes you think those are "extra numbers?" That is a fax address to
which a message must have been sent so the address was cached. Just remove
it if it bothers you.

:

1. Delete the Nickname cache file from each affected workstations. This file
keeps a list of cached names in Outlook by default. The file is located under:

C:\Documents and Settings\ProfileName\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

The file will have the extension *.NK2

So close Outlook completely, delete this file and start Outlook again. This
will force creation of a new file. All other caches will be lost as the file
will be reset.

2. When typing “bstevens†in the TO: line, Outlook will display “Bob
Stevensâ€. Scroll down to “Bob Stevens†and press the DEL button on the
keyboard. This will only delete this specific cached name from the NK2 file.

3. Or just delete the email address in the exchange server and recrete it
again. before deleting the account, please make sure to move his all mails to
a personal folder

To further clarify, I have already tried deleting the local NK2 File on my
computer already and it hasn't made any difference. That name cache
automatically reappeared after I sent the first mail to the
individual(BSTEVENS).

I don't think it's link to the NK2 on local computers.

Any other suggestions what might be causing it?

You will have to provide more information.
What you are seeing is a fax address. It cannot reach your autocompletion
cache unless you selected that address as a recipient. We have no idea what
you did.
Outlook cannot populate the autocompletion cache with an address you did not
select.

Russ,

Don't mean to mislead you or anything, but the actual number that appears is
"16816325"

I made up the previous number. How did you determine the number was a fax
number?

And the "actual number" i just provided does not register anywhere within
the office. The recipient is really a employee within the office, so the
address with the problem shouldn't have a fax number attached, if it is a
fax. Our fax number begins with a 389, thats no where close to that.

Thanks for your patience with helping me resolve this.

I'm stumped.

The address you initially posted is the correct format for any fax address
and is exactly how one would appear in the autocompletion cache. Fax numbers
appear very commonly in the autocompletion cache since fax addresses and
email addresses appear next to one another in the Outlook Address Book and
users often select the fax addresses inadvertently.

Now that you've posted more truthfully, I can safely tell you that what you
describe is inexplicable, has not been reported before, and is anyone's
guess. Where this Contact resides and how the address was selected are both
in play, and you still have not provided that information.

I'll entrust you to solve this one on your own and post back with the
solution. Solving problems in a newsgroup setting is difficult. When the
information provided is incomplete and inaccurate, it becomes impossible.
