Auto numbering and Styles

I'm trying to create a template which will give the
following format with auto numbering and contents page
generation. The fonts and layout need to be incorporated
into the Styles

Chapter 1 - Chapter Name

1. Heading

1.1 Sub Heading

1.2 Sub Heading

2 Heading

etc

Chapter 2 - Chapter Name

1. Heading

1.1 Sub Heading

1.2 Sub Heading

2 Heading

2.1 Sub Heading

2.2 Sub Heading


I've used predefined headings and contents on regular
basis and therefore have a good understanding.

The problems relate to making the headings user defined.
The text formatting is not a problem. But the numbering
won't work at the X.X level. It won't return to 1 and
1.1 at the appropriate points.

I've amended the settings in bullets and numbering but
without success.

Any suggestions please?

You need to make all the modifications and style linking working from your
top-level (Chapter) style. See the detailed instructions in:
