Auto-numbering does not refresh on removing a figure...

Hi,

I am using word 2003 in which I am auto numbering certain
figures or tables inside the word document.
So if i insert a new figure/table at any place, the Word
automatically gives it a caption and numbering based upon
the Heading and its position in the heading. So this goes
like -
Figure 1-1, Figure 1-2, Figure 1-3 and so on.
The problem starts when I remove any of the figure, the
Word does not remove the auto-entered caption and number.
So the numbering is not correct.

Advise, how can one achieve this?

You must remove the caption manually.

Not unless the caption and the figure (or table) are
positioned together in a frame, in which case you can
delete the frame together with its contents.
