Hi Pete:
The most common reason is because the Template has been attached with
"Automatically update styles on document open" left switched ON.
If this setting is switched on, it will automatically reset the styles in
the document every time the document is opened.
If you wish to use Automatic Numbering, you must switch off Automatically
Update on both ATools>Templates and Add Ins...> Attach and in Format>Style.
If that doesn't fix it for you, please come back here and we will provide
you with detailed instructions for setting up numbering styles (make sure
you have read everything in the Word Help on Styles and on Numbering first
or the instructions won't make any sense...)
