Auto numbering

Does anyone know if I can set a condition for a field to auto number each
form when a new form is pulled up? Thanks

Does this need to be unique and sequential?
Will multiple users be accessing the form concurrently?

This can be done but depending on your needs will require various solutions
to ensure sequence or uniqueness.
You have to have a numbering authority to make this fool proof and make sure
each form gets numbered properly.

The only way to do this effectivly then is to utilize SQL, it has builtin
capability for generating and assigning these ID's.

Hello Kay/Clay,

I am working on something very similar and haven't been able to find an
answer anywhere (at least one I could understand!). I need to generate an
automatic, sequential reference number for a form that will be submitted to a
Sharepoint site. It _needs_ to be sequential, generate upon opening the form
(so using the Sharepoint ID number is not an option) and the form will be
used by multiple people at any one time. I don't really have any experience
with coding/sql etc but if I have clear instructions, I'm certain I could
figure it out.
