Auto paragraph number format problem

After lurking here for a while, I can't find the answer to this one. I'm
using Word 2002 SP3. I'm inserting an auto paragraph number (using
listnum), and the number comes out red and underlined. This apparently is
not a typical Word formatting issue - Word does not recognize the number as
underlined or red, so I can't change it. None of the text on either side of
the number is red or underlined, nor are the other (auto) paragraph numbers.
BTW, I can create regular paragraph numbers the usual way - by hitting a
carriage return. The red and underline only happens when doing a manual
listnum insert.

Any help is appreciated.

That's the first thing I thought of. Track changes is not on, and I'm
looking at "Final" anyway that wouldn't show redlining.

Well, that appears to be the answer, but it also appears
to be a bug in Word. When I insert with track changes
enabled, I get the red and underline effect; when I insert
with it disabled, I don't. However, with track changes
enabled, the red and underline appears even when Word is
showing the "Final" version, not the "Final Showing
Markup". I shouldn't see any revision marks when
viewing "Final", right?

I'm seeing the same thing in Word 2003, and since I also see the formatting
in Print Preview, I have to assume it would print. I'll ask about this.
