auto-preview Outlook 2002

I've hear preview pane is dangerous and can let in viruses, etc.
Is auto-preview dangerous in the same way?
Is there a way to permanently turn off auto-preview.
I know View options turns it off, but it keeps coming back on automatically
when I switch folders, restart Outlook, etc.

What version? As long as it's not Ol98, you heard wrong. It's safer than
opening messages to read them.

auto preview is just text - it's perfectly safe, if you only need to read 3
lines.
