Auto recover keeps shutting down - reboot computer or program

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)

I am finding lately that auto recover for excel is shutting down quite often. Do I need to reboot system or just program?
Testing hard because can't seem to recreate on my onw fearful of loosing work if don't reboot system when it does appen but really problematic in terms of time-management.

Autorecover quitting is often the result of incorrect permissions or
network latency - if the autorecovery file can't be saved for some
reason, it aborts.

Are the files that you're having problems with on the local drive?
