Go to Word>Preferences>Save and turn on "Always make backup..." and "Save
auto recovery every..."
And get into the habit of manually saving (Command + s) every time you stop
to think.
Because neither Autorecovery nor Always make backup are fool-proof.
Autorecovery saves a list of CHANGES to the file. If you have NEVER saved
the file, autorecovery does nothing, because there is no original file to be
changed.
Always make backup... Saves the PREVIOUS version of the file into the same
folder as the file (marked "Backup of...) every time you save manually.
Autorecovery won't operate at all unless Word "knows it has crashed". Often
it doesn't, so when you restart, Autorecovery doesn't offer the recovered
file.
Always make backup... Gives you the file as it was two saves ago. If you
have not been manually saving, the backup will be very old.
Hope this helps

Hello,
My Word keeps quitting without my work being saved and I would like to make
sure that Auto Recovery is working. How do I set this up? Thanks.
