Word 2000 does not have an AutoSave feature. It has an AutoRecover feature
that creates an AutoRecovery backup file. This file is of no use to you
unless Word or the system crashes or the power fails, in which case the most
recent backup will be presented when you restart Word. The only way to
reliably save your document is to do it yourself. Save within five minutes
of creating the document and at intervals thereafter. Some people suggest
pressing Ctrl+S every time your fingers pause on the keyboard. Certainly
save before doing anything risky. How often you save depends a lot on what
you're doing, whether it's entering a lot of text or making tricky
formatting changes. You must decide how much work you're willing to do over
if you lose the file.
