Auto save?

I often use word to copy text from the web. I copy paste, go back to web,
and do this for ten minutes. But then something happens and I lose the new
file. Is there any chance this file (without being saved) is somewhere on
HD?

Is there any way to program Word to force an immediate save of every new
file, and then save it every few minutes?

Hi Kevs,

Visit Word's preferences and use the Save tab. There's an option to save an
autorecovery file every X number of minutes. Avoid the "Fast Saves" option.

There's also an options button in the File > Save As dialog. Click that when
you save your file the first time and check to box to automatically create a
backup file. The backup file might not be up to the second, but it will at
least have a good chance to rescue most of it.

If you need to get a lot of information from a web page that's a
straightforward web page there's File > Open Web Page. You can put the URL
in and Word will try to display the page. The feature is designed to display
Word documents that were saved as web pages, but it can work on any simple
web page (but nothing terribly complex).

And note that AutoRecover is not an AutoSave, AutoRecover only kicks in if
Word crashes.
For more info, see here:

Learning to constantly hit control-S every time you pause for thought is the
best idea. There is a macro you can install to avoid picking up this habit,
though it's written for the PC and I haven't tried it on a Mac. If it works
in Word 97, it should work on the Mac. See here:

Hi Kevs:

No, there is no chance that the file is on your hard disk unless you have
set up AutoRecover and Always make Backup in Word>Preferences.

Yes, you can write a macro named "AutoNew" to force Word to save every new
document, and you could use the OnTime method to save every few minutes.

However, this is not an ideal solution. Most users who try such a macro
give up because it's annoying to have the document suddenly become unusable
every few minutes because Word is saving it.

Most people get into the habit of hitting Command + s every time they pause
to think.

Cheers
