Auto saved failure

Word 2003, use word as email editor in outlook 2003. If I keep an email open
for awhile I see that auto-save failed and then I get an error that word
experienced an error trying to open the file and gives suggestions. Those
suggestions do not allow me to open the files. I'm OK if I reboot, but then
it happens again. I need to use word as my email editor. Any ideas?

I like to use word as email editor because of the added functionality. I
have always used word as email editor and have never encountered this problem.
