Auto Space added when I paste a word into my document

Hello - I have obviously hit some "Ctrl" feature and do not know how to
"undo" my error. When I copy a word(s) from my document and want to paste
those words in another area, the application automatically puts a space
before and after the words I have pasted. For example: ( Hello ) I copy
and paste the word Hello in the parenthesis and it adds a space before and
after the word. Can someone help me figure out what I need to turn off?
Thanks

The problem could be that Tools > Option > Edit tab > "Smart cut and paste"
is turned on and that the setting "Adjust sentence and word spacing
automatically" in the Settings dialog box (opens if you click the "Settings"
button) is turned on. Try to turn off "Smart cut and paste" or at least the
"Adjust sentence…" setting and see whether it solves the problem.

I always turn the off the "smart" options - I find that they cause more
problems than help.
