Auto speed recognition of visitors systems

My site, www.thebridesmother.co.uk which specialises in outfits for the
mother of the bride is heavily populated with pictures to show the outfits
we stock.
While those visitors who are broadband enabled are having no problems, quite
naturally those on dial up packages are hanging up in their thousands before
even loading the first page.
My site needs to show the outfits, after all what else does a mother of the
bride want to see when she types in a search query for outfits?
While I can still do some optimisation on the Jpegs and Gifs on the site, I
would rather build a separate index page for visitors on normal dial up
connections to make life a little easier for them.
Is there any way at all of incorporating any means of checking dial up
speeds when a visitor comes to the site, the directing it to the relevant
index?
Hope you know what I mean. Even more, I hope someone has the answer as I
know I am losing business because of the problem.

I don't think you can detect the user's connection speed. A work around
is to have the home page slimed down to the bare minimum then provide
links for broadband and slow speed.
