Auto spell checker and styles

J

I have for the first time started using Styles in a Word document. I
have adopted the Styles I am using from a colleague's Word file. All is
OK except that automatic spell checking does not work (no red lines
under mis-spelt words). The language for all styles is set to English
(UK) and spell checking via Tools>Spelling and Grammar.. works fine.
"Check spelling as you type" is selected in Preferences. It is just the
automatic aspect that doesn't work.

Any ideas would be very welcome.

Be sure the text is also set to English (UK). Place your cursor anywhere
inside a paragraph that's not spell-checking and go to Tools>Language. Does
it say English (US) or English (UK)? If the former, select all the text and
change the language setting in Tools>Language.
