Auto sync to actuals

Hi

Some of the resources in our project serverare offshore and do not enter
time using Project web access. The project manager goes in the project and
updates the tasks , say 100% done or something. In some projects its ok but
some projects when he tries to save it after updates it gives a message to
"The project is not synced and should it synced to actuals" with no option to
cancel only OK. When he presses ok he looses the updates he did on behalf of
the resources. Any way to turn this option off, so that it does not give
message or sync to actuals like other projects.

Thanks

Hi JungleBoy,

It appears that your Project Server is set up using "Managed Periods", thats
why you receive this massage.
There are several ways to deal with this.
1. dont use managed periods ( only if this would be possible ) the message
will no longer appear.
2. if you use managed periods, than update the actual time for team memebr
within PWA using the "adjust actuals" functionality.
Hope this helps

Thanks Mark, I had the same question as JungleBoy. My existing Project Server
is setup using managed periods. I can Update Actuals in PWA and all is fine.

In my last job the Project Server was not setup with managed periods. I had
Admin perms on the server but I was unable to Update Actuals in PWA....but
could update actuals in the Project schedule.

Is it true then...if managed periods is enabled then use Update Actuals in
PWA? If managed periods is not enabled, then use the Project schedule to
update actuals?

Hi Jesse,

Not quite, Irrespectively of using Managed Periods or not, you can still
enter time using PWA. It depends how your project is set up. Your project
Should be set up using this method of tracking "Hours of work done per day or
per week: Resources report the hours worked on each task during each time
period."

Should you want to ensure that your Project can be updated within the
timesheet, you will need to force the update within PWA under Admin >
Customise Project Web Access > Lock Down defaults
I hope this will help
