Auto text in Header / Footer not working anymore

I always use the footer in my documents to show the file name and path, also
the page numbers. These are no longer working, it comes up with FILENAME
\p instead. All of my previous documents are showing this too, yet when i
print, they come up as they should. please help.

Thanks, that help for the existing documents but I cant get the auto text to
work at all in new documents. any idea's?

If AutoText is not working in new documents, this is a sign that something
has happened to the Normal template (usually that it has been replaced with
a custom template, renamed as "normal.dot"). Exit Word, and then rename the
existing normal.dot file. As you restart Word, a fresh copy with the default
settings will be recreated. Now, can you insert AutoText again?

Note that the easiest way to locate normal.dot is to search for it (via
Start button | Search | For Files and Folders). Make sure to search hidden
files and folders.

I have searched, checking the hidden files and looking everywhere, the search
comes up wih 8 templates called NORMAL and 3 called ~$NORMAL but none called
normal.dot.
Is there any other reason why the auto text wouldnt worl, I'f someone else
logs on to our network using their own log in, the auto text works fine, but
not for me.

Any Idea's, our IT person doesnt know whats going on and I'm getting desperate

are called "filename.doc" (or "filename.docx" if you are using the new file
format of Word 2007). The Normal template is called normal.dot (in older
Word versions", or normal.dotm in Word 2007.
