auto-updated date

If I have a letterhead template that creates a document with the date in
auto-updated fashion, but I want to save the document with the date on
which it is written. I do not want the date updated every time that I
subsequently open the document. How to do this?

thanks in advance for this and other useful advice received on this
board.

Ken,

Thanks for your kind words.

If you choose Insert menu -> Date and time, you'll see -- in the window that
opens -- a check-box with "Update automatically". Make sure it's empty.

If you ever want to have a toolbar that gives various options for updating /
non-updating dates in various formats, take a look at appendix D of my notes
on the way I use Word, called "Bend Word to your Will", at

for you to back up your Normal template and all your Word settings files?
(This should be on a medium other than the internal hard drive and, if you

building.)

This gives you the date of creation of the *template* in any document
based on the template.

If you want a template that inserts in any document based on it the
date of creation of that *document*, choose Insert menu -> Field.
Select -- in the window that appears-- CreateDate (under the category
"Date and Time"). You can choose the format of the date under
options.

Arno,

Thank you very much for pointing out my error; I should have looked up my
notes before replying!

Ken,

You might find some interest in some notes about putting on a toolbar a
variety of date formats ready to be inserted. They are in appendix D of the
notes on the way I use Word, called "Bend Word to your Will", at
