Auto updater problems and Office 2004 issues

Shar

I recently installed Office 2004 Student / Teacher addition on my new
MacBook. I am getting error messages in Work, Powerpoint, Excel and
Entourage when trying to open them stating "an unexpected error occured
while trying to load the Microsoft Framework Library". Entourage won't
even let me access the program. Also, when the Auto updater for
microsoft shows that an update is ready to be installed, I click on the
update and I get the "can't access the server" message. I am online
and use both Firefox and Safari but just can't download from the
microsoft website. I have tried to go to the site and manually
download, but it can't find the server. I have downloaded from other
sites so I am wondering if it is just the microsoft site. Thanks for
any help. Shar

Hi Shar,

the framework library error usually indicates that an update has gone wrong,
so try re-applying the latest update to see if that solves the problem.
Since the Microsoft AutoUpdate application does not seem to be working, try
downloading the 11.3 update manually from the following website:

I used TinyURL to create a smaller URL, since the original URL is quite long
and would most probably break in newsreaders. Let us know how the upgrade
went.

The framework error indicates that one or more components of Office have not
been updated correctly and are now out of synch with other bits.

Try using this link:

<http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.aspx>

Then click on the link "Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac 11.3.0 Update"

Seemingly unrelated is an Apple OS update. Some users have reported that
problems were solved by using the Apple10.4.8 Combo updater from the Apple
web site rather than using Software Update. Re-install it, repair
permissions & restart, then try the 11.3 updater from Mactopia again.
