I've just migrated Office 2008 onto a new iMac and auto updater has disappeared completely. I've checked the library archive and it's not there - nor anywhere else on my computer. any suggestions, please?

You were seeing the old Office 2004 AutoUpdater. The Office 2008 MAU is now
hidden away.

/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/MAU2.0

The easiest way to find it is to lauch it from the Help menu in any Office
application. Select to leave it in the Dock while you are doing updates so
you can log out/in with Shift key down to disable all applications
(IMPORTANT) before updating.

Restart your computer is also advised as it clears cache files.
