Auto versus Manual PasteLink

When paste-linking (say from Visio to Word), Word defaults to an 'automatic'
link type. To avoid having to manually change these to 'manual' type links,
how can I set the default to manual?

I finally discovered why a Visio graphic in Word does not react well to
Adobe Acrobat--the automatic link (text is scrambled around the page). With
a manual link, text prints perfectly to Acrobat.

No way I know of to change the default. But if you're inserting these "inline
with the text" (instead of with text wrap formatting):
- Alt+F9 to display the fields
- Find/Replace the \a switch with nothing
- Alt+F9 again to hide the field codes
