I'm experiencing some problems with AutoArchiving. Perhaps you can help me.
One of my costumers has AutoArchiving configured, but once it runs it only
replicates the Folder-structure. There is not 1 email it will archive.
I saw this problem earlier in this discussion group, where the solution was
the modified date. It can not be the modified date, because when i
AutoArchive on 1 day, it wont work either.
Deny it doesn't change behavior, if enabled. Outlook uses the modified
datestamp to determine when an item is older than the number of days
that you specified.
There is the global auto-archiving configuration. That must be enabled
for auto-archiving to ever run (just like you must have the master
circuit breaker closed to get any electricity to anywhere in your
house). You also need to enable auto-archiving on a folder by
right-clicking on it, Properties, and enable archiving (which can have
different settings than the global configuration). That's like flipping
a switch in a room to turn on the light. You must have both the master
breaker and room light switch closed to get the lamp to come on, and the
same for the global and folder-local archiving settings.
Flipping on the master breaker doesn't also flip closed all the room
wall switches. You need to enable global auto-archiving for that
function to even run. You need to enable archiving on a per-folder
basis to get archiving to work on that particular folder. Folder
archiving properties are not enabled because you enabled the global
archiving function. However, I believe you can migrate the global
option to all the folder with a button in that dialog. If you want
different archiving settings per folder than for the global archiving
setup, you'll have to set the properties for each folder. For example,
while I may have global archiving enabled, configured to save items over
a year old, and migrate those settings to other folders, there is
obviously no reason to be keeping items in the Junk or Deleted Items
folders for anywhere that long. I set the Junk folder to auto-archive
(with permanent delete) after 1 week and the Deleted Items folder is set
to auto-archive (with permanent delete) after 1 month.
When i log on with my own name, i have no problems at all.
.pst isn't corrupt (said scanpst), i'm just clueless!
You're then under your own mail profile which will have it own
auto-archiving setup. So the auto-archiving is not setup properly in
the other mail profile under the other Windows account.
ps, another small question. I heard a .pst becomes corrupt when it reaches
2GB. Is that true?
That depends on the version of Outlook which you did not mention.
Pre-2003 versions have a 2GB limit (actually 1.87GB). Post-2002
versions can use the new Unicode format which, by default, have a
maximum .pst filesize of 20GB (but can be larger although the larger
size will slow down Outlook as it has to search through more data to add
or update records).
