Autocomplete behavior EXCEL's or WINDOWS?

When I am entering text into a cell, previous entries that began with
the same first letter or two will appear allowing for autocompletion.
This is a great time saving thing, however, I made an error on one of
the cells and now every time I enter the value I wish to have
autocomplete, I get the error one.

So my question is: is there a way to edit the values being used for
autocompletion? I'd like to remove the erroneous one. I do not want
to clear all choices (assuming I have any option at all to fix this).

Simply edit any previous incorrect entry within the contiguous set of cells
in a column you are working with, or am I misunderstanding your question.

Yes, I believe you are misunderstand my question. Here's an example:

Let's say I need to enter ABCDEF thousands of times, so the first time
I enter that the autocomplete tucks it away somewhere and remembers I
used that. The second time I start to enter A, autocomplete pops in
the BCDEF (this is what I want. So somewhere along the line I
accidentally entered ABCDEG. Now autocomplete has to wait until I've
entered nearly the whole string. What I wanted to know, was how to
rid the autocomplete cache of that erroneous ABCDEG string?

Let's say both these exist in your contiguous list
ABCDEFxxxxx
ABCDEGxxxxx

In another cell you type ABCDE, then if you type F or G autocomplete will
suggest one of the above (assuming no other ambiguous matches of the first 5
characters). The autocomplete 'cache' is the list of contiguous cells that
include the cell you are editing. So the only way to amend that 'cache' is
to amend the rogue entry in a cell.

AutoComplete looks in the column above (and below) the current cell to build
a list of values to make choices from. You can see this list by holding ALT
and clicking the Down-Cursor-Arrow. This will show a list of all the unique
entries in the set of cells directly above and below the current cell, and
this list is called the "Pick-From-List". The list is built "interactively",
as you edit cells and type new cells.

The feature is typically (not always) "broken" by a blank cell. Also, cells
formatted as numeric are not included in the list.

So, the list is the data in the cells of a contiguous range of cells in a
column, usually (not always) delimited by cells which are blank (if there are
any).

To edit the list AutoComplete (and "Pick-From-List") uses, you simply edit
the actual data in the cells above and below the cell you are currently on.

What this means for you, is that somewhere in the column, likely above but
possibly below the cell you are typing in, there exist one or more cells
containing the erroneous version of the text as in "ABCDEG" from your
example.

Start at the top of the column and do find/replace to find and fix the
incorrect entries. Then AutoComplete will not show the incorrect entry any
more.
