Autocomplete behavior is broken

Excel 2008 seems to have made autocomplete much less useful.

If I enter a list:
apples
oranges
bananas

and then in the next cell, type "b", all other version of Excel (Mac2004, Windows2003 and Windows2007) will autocomplete "bananas" INLINE. When I press return, the field is filled in, and I can move on with my list.

With Mac:Excel 2008, I have to use the down arrow to pick the value from the list. I know one keystroke shouldn't be a big deal, but it requires me to move my hands from the keyboard and break my chain of thought.

Is there a way to have the same functionality as all the other versions of Excel?

No need to stray from the keyboard at all ‹ just press the Down Arrow, then
press return :)

To tell you the truth, I prefer this behavior because many lists I deal with
have entries with the same starting string. Rather than having to continue
typing to get to a unique character I can more accurately ‹ and more quickly
‹ down arrow to my choice [I'm not the best typist in town :)]

agree with the original post. I take the point in the answer, but I can't see why the user couldn't just choose the one they prefer. My autocomplete doesn't even seem to work at all.
