Autocomplete email address function lobotomized when Outlook close

H

Hugh

My OS is XP Pro. I've just installed Office 2007 Enterprise, and I switched
my email to Outlook from Outlook Express. Outlook works fine to autocomplete
email addresses until I close Outlook. When Outlook's reopened I have to
type each adddress again once to initiate autocomplete. All is okay until I
close Outlook and reopen it. Then I have to start over typing each address
once to get it to autocomplete. Every time I look to see whether the box
that tells the program to autocomplete is checked, and it always is. I've
run the Outlook repair tools, and they say they've repaired something, but it
didn't fix the problem.

Try renaming your .NK2 file while Outlook is closed, and Outlook will create
a new one next time it saves an autocomplete address. You may have to search
within hidden folders to find your .NK2 file.

I found that cure in another thread, and I followed the writer's instructions
on how to find the .NK2 file, and it wasn't where he said it was. He gave a
link to a commercial site that claimed to have a program to fix it, but I'm
not going to pay for or load another program if I can fix it by chasing down
the problem. I suppose I should do a general search for .NK2 files. I'll
try that. Many thanks.

Yes, do the search and remember to search within hidden folders. The .NK2
file should have the same name as the Outlook profile it's being used
with...so if your profile is called Outlook, the autocomplete file would be
Outlook.NK2.

Gracias. I'll do it. I've got a search going for .NK2 files in general, but
it's taking forever, and hasn't uncovered anything in the year 2007, much
lessJuly of 2007. Now that I know a name, I'll try to narrow the search by
date.

Nothing. I've searched for files containing .NK2 in the name, and for files
named Outlook.NK2, and I don't come up with anything in 2007, nor with any
file that I can identify as either an .NK2 or a profile. Can you help me
frame the correct search query, or advise me on another way to try to find
the file? Thanks. Hugh

did you remember "search and remember to search within hidden folders". You
have to tell the Search to search within hidden folders
