Autocomplete problems

Hello

I have a variety of letter templates and in the previous version of Office
whenever I began to type in the name of a contact a tooltip came up showing
that contact (I also use Entourage) and when I pressed return, the full name
of the contact plus the suffix would be inserted in the font of that
document.

Since I upgraded to Office 2008, the tooltip still comes up but when I press
return I have two problems:

1. The suffix is not inserted even though that feature is checked in the
preferences

2. The name is inserted in a font different from the document.

Any ideas how to fix?
Thanks

Hi Pat;

I can confirm the difference in the AutoComplete operation you're seeing,
but IIRC this may be one of the changes made intentionally. Although the
Suffix is included if you use the Tools> Address Book method it isn't
included when you accept the AutoComplete method. I understand that having
to go through the menu is a bit more inconvenient.

The only alternative I know of is to accept the AutoComplete entry &
Control/Right-Click the Contact entered & select Include Suffix. I'd suggest
that you type at least one additional word before doing so, though -- you
can do the rt-clk at any time. In playing with this I found that if you add
the suffix immediately the insertion point remains in the field & continues
it from that point forward which I definitely consider to be a bug. I'll
report both & see what kind of feedback I get. I'll reply here, but don't
expect it to be immediately.

Believe it or not, I think this is the only inquiry I've seen about the
behavior since 2008 was released :) but I'm sure you aren't alone. I'd
suggest you use Help> Send Feedback to express your preference where MS will
be sure to notice it. Perhaps a future update or the next release will offer
more choices. They do pay attention to the Feedback, but no guarantees.

As for the formatting issue, I'm not 100% sure. My expectation, though, is
that the font formatting used in the document was done directly rather than
by using Styles. The underlying Style of the text is still Normal, as is the
Style of the inserted content. As a result the insertion of the Address Book
entry is retaining the attributes of the Normal style.

Hey, Thanks. At least I know I'm not crazy.

I didn't know you could do the insertion using Tools >> Address Book. As a
side benefit, it also uses the correct font of the document. I may use this
method instead of the Autocomplete. As it stands now, they are about equally
as cumbersome.

Incidentally, my address book only fills up 1/3 of the way down in the text
box that appears when I click Tool>>address book. The rest of the text box
is a gray blank. Also, my scrollwheel on the mouse doesn't work there. Is
that a bug or a "feature"?

Thanks again.

I don't use it much so I can't say for certain, but I believe that is one of
many dialogs where the scroll wheel/touchpad isn't available. It would
technically be a bug, but my hunch is that it's simply that there was too
little time & bigger challenges to overcome.

The size of the list is as designed ‹ the bottom portion of the dialog
window is intended to display additional fields of data pertaining to the
selected record. IMHO there should be a means of adjusting the height,
perhaps similar to what the Reference Tools palette offers.
