Autocompletion works but not autoresolution in Outlook 2002

Steve

When I type in the first three letters of a name in an address field,
if the name is in my autocompletion cache, it resolves it. IF not,
autoresolution is not automatically invoked to do a lookup in my
Addresss Book. Instead, a dialogue box appears saying Outlook does
not recognize the name. Yet when I click on Show More Names..., a
list from my address book appears with the name that I want
highlighted. Clicking Ok resolves the name.

The "Automatic name checking" option in Advanced Email Options is on
and my Contact folder has the property "Show this folder as an e-mail
address book" on.

Thanks for the help.
Stephen

P.S. Yes, I do know the difference between autocompletion and
autoresolution.
It was explained to me by a user in this group.

Not sure why you think autoresolution isn't invoked. That dialog box tells
you that it is and that Outlook simply can't determine the match based on
what you've typed in.

It found a unique match.

Then you've finally confirmed a bug I filed against Outlook 2002 that
remains open because Microsoft claimed it could not reproduce it.
Autoresolution data is no longer stored reliably in the NK2 file. I suspect
the reason they did not fix it is that for most users autocompletion has
replaced autoresolution.

Steve,

Just as an FYI, when Outlook searches the autocomplete cache, NK2, it will
stop searching the name after the first comma or space in that field.
Therefore, if a name is in there as Doe, John (e-mail address removed)
autocomplete will not find it if you start typing John. And the converse is
true, if you enter it as John Doe, it will find it by typing John, but not
Doe.

If you're interested, we developed an NK2 editor and it can be found at
www.dcs-imaging.com/products.htm.
