AutoCorrect Border Line/Break

BAM

I am working with a document created in an older version of Word (I am using
2003), There are lines across the page that were created by hitting the dash
key 3 times and hitting enter. I cannot get the lines to delete. I have tried
removing borders, changing auto correct, cutting and deleting the text before
and after the line. Can you help??

You've stumbled into the Mac Word newsgroup, but the solution should be the
same.

If you're sure that's how the lines were created they are in fact paragraph
borders, so that is how they need to be removed. Perhaps you're trying to
remove the borders from the wrong paragraphs?

Select the paragraph where the lines appear, then go Format>Borders &
Shading and click the preset icon for 'None'. Keep in mind that they are
applied as *bottom* borders, so the "controlling" paragraph is the one
directly *above* each line. If you turn on the Show/Hide Non-Printing
Characters button (¶) it will help identify the paragraphs involved. Also,
if you have to select more than one paragraph - some having borders & some
not - you will have to click the None button twice... Just keep an eye on
the sample to make sure no borders appear there.

If that doesn't work the lines must have been generated in some other way.
Is there any Protection applied to the document? Is it 'Read Only'? Anything
else you can describe about trying t

I tried this but it did not remove the lines. It did however lead to the
resolution. You mentioned that it was a paragraph border, so I went into the
Styles and formatting to see if it was in fact part of a paragraph style. It
turned out that it was. I edited that style to remove the paragraph border
within the style.

Thanks for your help!!!
