Autocorrect first letter turned off does not work in tables

I have turned off autocorrect first letter capitalization in Word 2004.
Yet in a table, the first letter still gets changed to a capital
letter. This is driving me nuts. Any workaround for this?

Once again, Word trying to be helpful...

I suspect this will eventually be an option in the autocorrect dialog,
but in Word04 it's not there yet. However you can turn it off:

When the first word is capitalized, a blue autocorrect line will appear
under the word. Hover over it and a "smart button" will appear. Click it
once to reveal a menu. Select the

Stop autocapitalizing first word of table cell

item.

Yes! This is why the little blue squiggle and button appears below the
letter - it's so you'll know the answer to this question, and so you'll
have an easy way to turn off this feature. I don't really care for these
new little animations and inline buttons in Word 2004, but at least they
do make the answer to questions like this dead obvious. m.
