Autoexec fails to run

M

Mark Gould

I am trying to run some code in the autoexec section of a
macro and cannot do it because the program never executes
the code. I looked in Microsofts knowledge base and they
said if I am running Outlook to exit Outlook and run it
again, which I did. The program still doesn't execute the
autoexec code. What am I doing wrong? Has anyone run into
a similar experience? If so, how did you solve it.

Thanking you in advance,

Mark

What was the bug? THe program was working fine until my
users got new computers, now I can't get the autoexec to
run when the macro is loaded. Where would I begin?

Thanks,

Mark

Hi Mark,

The bug that Jezebel may have had in his code is quite likely entirely
different to the bug that is in your code. Without you pasting your code
into a message that you post back here so people can see what it is, (plus
maybe an explanation of what it is supposed to do), there is little chance
of helping you.

Hi Doug,

Could you tell me under what circumstances would the
autoexec not run when a macro is executed. I tried
unchecking the "use Microsoft Word to edit e-mail
messages" like the knowledge base article suggested and
the autoexec still doesn't run. I also exited Outlook 2002
and still the same result.

I was just wondering if I am missing something. Any
suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Mark

Hi Mark,

Well, the most obvious thing that comes to my mind is that
the AutoExec macro is not located somewhere that is being
loaded. You mention

"He program was working fine until my
users got new computers, now I can't get the autoexec to
run when the macro is loaded."

I have to ask, is the AutoExec saved in the Normal.dot
template, or in another template that is being loaded as an
Addin?

If in Normal.dot, is a copy of Normal.dot with this macro
still on the users' machines after the upgrade? And is it
saved in the proper location so that Word is "seeing" it?
If you search a machine for "Normal.dot" how many copies do
you find?

If the AutoExec is in another template, that is supposed to
be loading as a global addin, then you should check whether
the folder in which it is saved is the same as the STARTUP
folder designated on these new machines.

In either case, I'm guessing that the template containing
AutoExec simply isn't being loaded.
