autofill results appear as "$ -" with no error, why?

When I use autofill, I get $ - in the cells I am trying to autofill. Why
can't I get the actual dollar amounts? No error appears, and I don't know how
to fit it. Why isn't the formula copying?

Not enough detail in your description.

Are you autofilling formulas or raw data or?

All we know now is that you are using Accounting format.

Show some sample data and what you want autofilled and to where.

as a simple explanation (although Gord is correct, we kinda need more
information), if column A is numbers, column B is numbers, and column
C has the formula:

=A1+B1

when you pull down column C & autofill, when

=A#+B# (# being the current row number)

equals zero (or both are blank), then your formula will equal zero,
giving you $ - as an answer in the accounting format.
