Autofilling Dates in Rows

Bill

In older versions of Excel, you used to be able to autofill dates in a
column by clicking on the last cell, then dragging down to the desired
cell, i.e. create sequential dates in the column, but I can't seem to
find how to do it with 2010. Please advise. Thanks!

Hi Bill
Nothing is changed, you must select the bottom right corner of the cell, your
cursor will change to a cross and drag down.
If the column next to the column dates is filled in, you don't need to drag
down, from the same corner, you double click and it will fill down.

Thanks cimjet,

This is what I recall doing under previous version, but when I get the
cross and drag down, it just copies the last cell - it does not
increase the date by one day! BTW, there is nothing in an adjacent
column.

Don,

I selected two cells and dragged down - all I get is the same two

Are they really dates or just text values? Try to format General and
see if you get a large number. If you don't then they're not dates.

I "format General" and got a large number! The entire column is
formatted "Date". I then went back to check one of my older files with
dates and it was formatted "Column", "d-mmm-yyyy" and tried to
auto-fill and it worked fine! I then went back to my new file, changed
the format to "Column", "d-mmm-yyyy" and tried to auto-fill. This
time, it only copied the date!

I went back to check and my dates are formatted as "Custom", NOT
"Date", since I'm using the military date format (d-mmm-yy). Will the
autofill not work with the "Custom" setting?
