autofilter-subtotal-problem

Excel 2000 WinMe

Have tried using the autofilter to sum (subtotal) all entries for
7/7/03. When I place the cursor in the top visible cell and drag down to get
the range to subtotal, it works to a point. When the cursor moves from G331
to (next visible cell) G361, instead of highlighting the cell G361, it all
of a sudden highlights the whole autofiltered sheet, from A to H.
I can manually type in the full range and it works. All cells formatted
the same.
I do have some text and also blank rows in the worksheet between cells
G331 and G361.

Can I safely assume that this is what is causing the problem?

TIA

Sounds like you also have merged cells in there which would make the range jump to accommodate all
columns that the merged cell crosses. Somewhere between 331 and 361.

Just checked and you are right. Row 353 has merged cells covering A thru
H. Will change that to Format>cells>Alignment>center and see if that clears
the problem.

General rule of thumb is that merged cells are the spawn of the devil, and should be avoided at
all costs. Might occasionally need one, but do without if possible - Cause all manner of
headaches.

Just UNmerged and did the Format>>> thing and everything worked.
Apparently text and blank cells are not a problem. Just the merged cells.
Was not aware of the Fromat> cells>> way of centering until I read it in
this group. I always used the "merge". Have to change my ways. :) Thanks.

THANKS AGAIN
