Autoformat is screwing up my outlines!

RobinBaral

I have been formatting outlines for the past year, and now, for some reason
when I make one formatting change to an outline, the whole style becomes
corrupted. I have "automatically update" checked OFF in my styles. The
formatting also gets screwed up in the header and footer, and the outline
appears in there as well (or wherever there is a paragraph mark). Usually,
pushing control "Z" removes most of the unnecessary autoformatting, but this
glitch is seriously hampering my productivity. Suggestions, anybody??

Thanks in advance.

See http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/WholeDocumentReformatted.htm.

I cannot explain why numbering is applied to header and footers,
unless the Normal style (on which the Header and Footer styles are
based) is included in the outline-numbered list. If this is the case,
choose a different style for numbering, and make sure to set it up
correctly; see
http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/numbering/OutlineNumbering.html.

If the above doesn't help, take a look at
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/CorruptDoc.htm.
