autoformat not formating to selected format

Hi, I am trying to use autoformat in excel for mac 2004 and I will
select a format like accounting1 - the sample shows but excel doesn't
format it correctly. It seems to only format the simple correctly. The
others will be missing a vertical line or a double line or all will be
the same color. I have reinstalled excel and reupdated. I read on the
internet about moving the com.microsoft.plist and pref.plist but that
did not work. I am new to excel and am taking a class at our community
college so I do not know if other functions are behaving this way as
well. If any one has any suggestions I could use some help.
Thanks, Ruth

First, reinstalling is very unlikely to do anything - Mac applications
just don't corrupt that easily. If you're going to, as a last resort,
you should run the Remove Office application on the installation CD.
That will remove the .plist and other files that can corrupt.

Before you reinstall anything, however, check that you're actually
applying all aspects of the formats. In the AutoFormat dialog, click
Options... and make sure all the Formats to apply checkboxes are checked.

Also, you should realize that autoformat guesses at your table - if a
total row or column in the autoformat has a different format, then that
format will only be applied if the row or column has SUM formulae in it.

Also, conditional formatting will still apply, so make sure that's not
interfering.

Thank you very much! I was trying to set up the look of my table before
inserting all the data. I thought I would save the time of all the
inserting and make sure I could get the table to look right first. The
problem was I did not put the sum formula in the row. You answered my
question with one email and I spent 4 hours looking over the internet
last night. Thanks again.
